An honors graduate of the Louisiana State University Law School, Sherb Sentell serves the people of Minden and south Webster Parish, Louisiana as the elected Minden-Ward 1 City Judge. A partner at Sentell Law Firm, LLC, Sherb Sentell is also a current member of the Louisiana State Bar Association (LSBA).

In line with its goal to serve the public and the legal profession, LSBA operates a Client Assistance Fund (CAF) to reimburse clients who have lost money or property in the hands of dishonest lawyers. The fund reimburses clients to the tune of $25,000 for money lost due to a lawyer’s dishonesty, rather than an advocate’s incompetence.

Any person, including non-US citizens, can seek compensation for dishonestly allocated money. However, the fund does not reimburse close relatives or business associates of the dishonest lawyer, neither does it reimburse government agencies.

Before applying for reimbursement, applicants should first file a claim against their former lawyer through the Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC). The ODC will investigate whether the lawyer acted dishonestly. A committee of licensed lawyers administers the CAF fund. This group determines which applicants receive reimbursements and how much each receives.
